If your degree is in Professional Communications, Human Resources, or Public Relations, you could greatly increase your resume by learning video production. In the Twenty First Century businesses need videos. It has become custom to have informative videos on company websites. Public Relations representatives utilize social media and the company’s website to release statements or messages about the business to the Public. Communicating through videography to release messages on the company’s behalf through film is becoming customary. Understanding and practicing this field can improve your freelancing skills for many prospective employers who are in need of these abilities.

The Old Dominion Film Club is a terrific resource to develop your professional videography skills in addition to personal growth. The Old Dominion Film Club has meetings every Tuesday and Thursday nights at 7:15PM to 10:00PM. This club is open to the public and extraordinarily kind to new visitors. Tyler Brit will introduce and invite the new comer to share something they like about film. This is a testament to the atmosphere and welcome environment the group has. Screenplays are democratically elected to be turned into a major production at least once every semester. While these films are being workshopped, anyone has the ability to bring in personal or school projects for suggestions and advise from the group.

Anyone can be a part of the elected production. Group members can request positions and call sheet are emailed to anyone willing to help out. Professional cameras, lights, microphones, and other equipment will be supplied by ODU. Highly talented and skilled members help run the production and demonstrate knowledgeable vocabulary and practices in the field of video production.

My personal experiences have been informative and educational. Sometimes, I show up on set to help grip, setup, sound, or even act. No matter what, it is always a rewarding experience to work with friendly people and will advance your comprehension of videography. Whether you have an idea, scripts, shot lists, prop design, acting, camera questions, or anything film related, come to Film Club, build great friendships with amazing people, and improve some production skills at the same time. Just click the link below and search "ODU Film Club".
